The disease needs serious concern to minimize impact and improve the situation. Objective This study aimed to describe the level of health literacy, symptom control, and medication management and determine the relationships among them in patients with asthma in Da Nang, Vietnam. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 84 patients with asthma. The questionnaires were used in this study, including demographic form, the Short-Form Health Literacy questionnaire (HL-SF12), Asthma Control Test (ACT), and Medication Adherence Reporting Scale for Asthma (MARS-A). Pearson product-moment correlation was applied to determine the relationship between health literacy, symptom control, and medication management. Results The score revealed for general-health literacy, symptom control, and medication management were 28.70 (SD = 9.66), 17.72 (SD = 4.67), and 3.63 (SD = 0.75), respectively. Health literacy level had moderate positive relationships with symptom control (r = 0.41) and medication management (r = 0.44). Conclusion The patients had limited health literacy, partially controlled symptom, and poor adherence to the medication. Health literacy level had moderate positive relationships with symptom control and medication management. These findings are crucial for effective treatment and management of the disease in Vietnam. To improve medication management and symptom control among patients with asthma, nurses should concern patients' health literacy level. But, the results are inconclusive. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate whether or not multidisciplinary CKD care was beneficial in terms of CKD progression. Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial and conducted at community hospital, Thailand. The inclusion criteria were patients with age of 18 years or older and diagnosed with up to stage 3b CKD based on the KDIGO guidelines. Eligible patients divided into two groups: intervention and control group. The intervention group received a type of multidisciplinary treatment, while patients in the control group received the standard treatment administered at the outpatient clinic. The primary outcome was eGFR outcomes at three months after enrollment. Results: During the study period, there were 334 patients who met the study criteria. Eligible patients were divided into two groups: intervention (166 patients; 49.70%) and control (168 patients; 50.30%). There were three outcomes that differed significantly between the two groups at 3 months: mean difference of eGFR from baseline, proportion of patients with eGFR decline greater than 4 mL/min/1.73 m², and difference in CKD stage from baseline. A significantly higher percentage of patients in the intervention group experienced CKD improvement by one stage (24.10% vs 5.95%), and a significantly lower percentage experienced decline by one stage (8.43% vs 35.12%) than in the control group. Conclusion: Slower renal progression in patients with up to stage 3b CKD was shown in patients who were treated by a multidisciplinary approach. Because of the shortage of healthcare personnel, village health volunteers (VHVs) have been collaborating in the primary health care system. However, the contribution of VHVs to CKD reduction has not been evaluated yet. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the VHV-integrated model in preventing and slowing down CKD and its risk factors. METHODS The population-based cohort study was conducted in a rural community of Thailand between 2017 and 2019. Baseline clinical and behavioral characteristics including CKD, diabetes, hypertension, and other high-risk factors of the participants were collected. The integrated care model was initiated by the multidisciplinary care team that facilitated, empowered, and trained VHVs targeting risk factors of CKD, health literacy, and health promotion. Then the participants were educated and trained for lifestyle modification and were monitored continuously for 18 months by VHVs. Changes in the CKD risk factors, and kidney functions before and after the application of integrated care model were compared. RESULTS A total of 831 subjects participated in the study with an average age of 57.5 years, and 69.5% were female. Among them, 222 participants (26.7%) were diagnosed as having CKD, the vast majority (95%) of which were in the early stages (G1-G3 and A1-A2). CKD risk factors such as high salt intake, smoking, alcohol consumption, self-NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) use were significantly decreased after application of the care model. Also, hemoglobin A1c was significantly reduced in diabetic patients, and blood pressure was controlled better than before in the hypertensive patients. Most importantly, a decline of estimated glomerular filtration rate of the CKD group was improved and lower than the non-CKD group. CONCLUSION The integrated care model through VHV significantly attenuated the risk factors associated with CKD in the general and high-risk population and effectively slowed down the progression of CKD. Community pharmacies, as accessible healthcare hubs, can play a pivotal role in CKD prevention. This study aimed to develop care models for community pharmacies to optimize medication use, encourage behavior modification, and promote self-management among at-risk individuals. METHODS Conducted between June 2017 and July 2018, this study utilized an action research approach. Microalbuminuria was assessed using urine dipsticks, and pharmacists applied behavioral change and self-management support (SMS) strategies to slow CKD progression. Participants were categorized by albuminuria levels and enrolled in pharmacist-led care programs, with follow-up assessments at weeks 0 and 12. RESULTS Of 521 participants screened, 57% tested positive for albuminuria. For these individuals, serum creatinine testing and referrals to primary care were initiated. Self-management behavior assessment (S1) scores significantly improved (p = 0.024). Key factors associated with urine albumin levels included age < 60 years (OR = 0.44), diabetes (OR = 3.69), hypertension (OR = 2.01), BMI < 27.5 kg/m2 (OR = 0.42), eGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (OR = 3.34), lower systolic (OR = 0.55) and diastolic blood pressure (OR = 0.34), and fasting plasma glucose < 126 mg/dL (OR = 0.29). CONCLUSIONS Community pharmacist-led albuminuria screening effectively supports CKD prevention and enhances self-awareness within communities. Identifying and focusing on caregivers’ unmet need have been recommended to reduce their burden and improve their quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Thai version of Supportive Care Needs Survey for Partners and Caregivers (T-SCNS-P&C) among Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) caregivers. Methods: The T-SCNS-P&C was developed using standardized translation methodology. A total of 231 CCA caregivers completed the T- SCNS-P&C. The internal consistency of the scale was examined with Cronbach’s alpha. Construct validity was analyzed using Pearson correlations coefficient with the physical effects, stage, anxiety and depression, age, and education level. To assess the factorial validity of the T-SCNS-P&C, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed. Results: The T- SCNS-P&C indicated good readability and high content validity for use as an assessment tool among Thai CCA caregivers. All Cronbach’s α coefficients were above the minimum acceptable criterion of ≥0.70. For construct validity, higher physical effect scores and higher anxiety and depression scores, as well as poorer QOL scores and younger caregivers, were significantly positively associated with higher levels of unmet needs. CFA indicated that the four factor structure of the T-SCNS-P&C was a good fit to the data. Conclusion: The T-SCNS-P&C demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity for assessing unmet needs among CCA caregivers in Thailand. Using this simple assessment to target the individual needs of these caregivers can help healthcare professionals providing effective personalized care.
